Breast Cancer Pathology
There may be nothing more anxiety-provoking than the wait for breast biopsy results. That’s why the Pathology Department at Northern Westchester Hospital (NWH) makes sure you and your physician receive the most thorough breast cancer pathology reports as quickly as possible. For additional assurance, all specimens are reviewed multiple times to ensure that nothing is overlooked.
While you won’t interact with a Pathologist, you can be assured that they are intimately involved in your care. When they examine a tissue sample, they understand that you are waiting for breast biopsy results that have potentially life-altering consequences—for you and your family.
Fast, Thorough Results
It is our policy to perform multiple reviews of all samples to ensure nothing is overlooked. In addition, our Pathology department expedites all biopsies delivering the results to breast surgeons within one day. This enables your surgeon to meet with you as soon as possible.
The Pathologists at NWH in New York are involved in every step of breast cancer diagnosis and treatment. If abnormalities are detected during imaging studies, a woman may undergo a minimally invasive ultrasound biopsy, stereotactic biopsy, or a MRI biopsy to extract cells and tissue that the pathologists will examine. Whether the examination proves to be benign or malignant, these findings determine the next course of action.
Because the potential consequences of the findings are enormous, we never lose sight of humanity in our pursuit of a diagnosis.
