The Breast Health Initiative
Through The Breast Health Initiative (BHI) at Northern Westchester Hospital, underserved women (primarily Latinas) receive a holistic continuum of free, accessible, comprehensive, state-of-the-art, and timely breast health services. While some imaging centers in the community may provide initial breast screening, BHI is the source in northern Westchester for comprehensive breast health services, from education and screening to diagnosis, treatment and follow-up services.
The BHI targets women age 40 and over or those at high risk, of whom about 90% live at or below the poverty level and 90% are without health insurance.
As a NYS Cancer Services Program provider, NWH works with a variety of community partners that serve Latina women, including Open Door Family Medical Centers, Community Center of Northern Westchester and Neighbor’s Link to provide essential breast health education and services.
