About The Breast Institute
The Breast Institute at Northern Westchester Hospital has been granted a three-year full-accreditation designation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), a program administered by the American College of Surgeons.
Continuity of Care
Starting with our dedicated Women’s Imaging Center, the diagnosis, treatment and follow-up care are administered by a caring team of experts in:
These experts work together as members of a multidisciplinary group to carry out a coordinated, comprehensive treatment plan focused on the best possible outcome.
Women's Imaging Center
Our women-only radiology facility is truly unique. We take a primary care approach to radiology. And we take a team approach to diagnosis and treatment. Our physical setting, our proximity to other specialists and our patient-centered approach is what differentiates us and makes the care at Northern Westchester Hospital’s Women’s Imaging Center so exceptional.
The Women’s Imaging Center is located within the Radiology department, adjacent to—and an integral part of—The Breast Institute at NWH. Imaging services require a referral from a physician.
For the convenience of our patients, The Breast Institute in Yorktown is attended by our on-site Nurse Practitioner Mary Greco, FNP, who can evaluate you and refer you for scanning in the same visit, without need for a referral from a physician.
The Only Breast Imaging Center of Excellence in Westchester County
Northern Westchester Hospital is acclaimed a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by The American College of Radiology (ACR) for three areas: Mammography, Stereotactic Biopsy and Breast Ultrasound.
We are completely digital and filmless with PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System) allowing diagnostic tests to be interpreted, stored and viewed in digital form. This technology speeds up the results process and makes them instantly accessible whenever they are needed.
All women’s radiology services are provided by certified staff members including two mammography specialists, an ultrasound technologist, and the Center’s Medical Director, Dr. Bonnie Litvack, a fellowship-trained radiologist who is one of the foremost experts in breast imaging.
Dr. Bonnie Litvack is Director of Women’s Imaging at Northern Westchester Hospital. She is Board Certified in Diagnostic Radiology, Fellowship trained in MRI, and has extensive experience in all aspects of women’s imaging services. Dr. Litvack takes a ’primary care’ approach with her patients, and seeks to reduce the anxiety that many women understandably experience during scans. All studies are interpreted by White Plains Radiology Associates, PC, the professional radiology group at NWH. WPRA has 50 board-certified Radiologists on staff with expertise in multiple areas of diagnostic imaging including: nuclear medicine, diagnostic radiology, women's imaging, pediatric radiology, neuroradiology, and interventional radiology.

These physicians strive to achieve optimal medical management of the cancer while maintaining or enhancing aesthetic results to improve your quality of life.
A Team Approach
Once you have been diagnosed with cancer, oncological breast surgeons and reconstructive plastic surgeons meet to discuss the best surgical plan to address the cancer while maintaining your body image and quality of life.
The oncological breast surgeon and the plastic reconstructive surgeon will present you with the best possible surgical option.
In addition, if you have a family history of breast or ovarian cancer and test positive for a BRCA1 or BRCA2 mutation, the genes responsible for hereditary breast and ovarian cancers, you can discuss options for prophylactic mastectomy and reconstruction of both breasts.
Women have choices at The Breast Institute. The unique collaboration of our breast surgeons and reconstructive surgeons provides you with the best cancer care while optimizing your aesthetic outcome.
