Surgical & Medical Intervention
Changes to lifestyle are the least invasive course to reduce the risk of developing breast cancer. Your doctor at The Breast Institute may recommend lifestyle changes as a starting point in reducing cancer risk. In addition, your doctor may advise medical and/or surgical interventions.
Women who are found to be at high risk for breast cancer may choose to have a surgical or medical intervention to reduce their risk. There are medications which reduce risk of breast cancer. Surgery might include mastectomies or removal of the ovaries and tubes.
Women at high risk for breast cancer may also be offered close surveillance with breast exams and imaging including MRIs.
