Genetic Risk Assessment Tool
Are You at Risk for Hereditary Breast and Ovarian Cancer Syndrome? Is there a history of breast cancer or ovarian cancer in your family?
Breast Cancer Genetics Referral Screening Tool (B-RST) is a screening tool that helps identify people who may have a strong genetic (hereditary) risk for breast and ovarian cancer due to their family history. This tool does not determine who should or should not get BRCA testing.
Use this self assessment tool to determine whether you should meet with our Genetic Counselor.
To discuss your answers and understand your risk, schedule an appointment with our Genetic Counselor, Nancy Cohen, MS, Certified Genetic Counselor. If you mark two or more boxes in this table, we urge you to schedule an appointment with our Genetic Counselor.

BRCA Genetic Testing:
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, breast cancer is the second most common cause of cancer among women, and 5 to 10 percent of breast cancers in the U.S. are linked to an inherited genetic mutation, which is a change in the genetic code of a gene, affecting its function.
Inherited gene mutations increase breast cancer risk and can be passed from one generation to another. The best-known genes linked to breast cancer are BRCA1 and BRCA2 (Breast Cancer genes 1 and 2). BRCA1 and BRCA2 also account for around 15 percent of ovarian cancers.
A crucial tool in battling breast cancer is genetic testing. It helps people discover if their family history of breast cancer is related to an inherited gene mutation. One such tool is the Breast Cancer Genetics Referral Screening Tool (B-RST) that identifies people with a strong hereditary risk of breast or ovarian cancer.
